Photo Challenge Week #15 - Feet

Shannon - Little feet right out of the shower.  We have the tiniest shower room. (No bathtub)  And the kids never dry off before running off through the house to get dressed in their bedroom.  Love the little feet.

Photo Challenge Week #14 - Mountain

Shannon - Mountains are hard to come by in Denmark.  Mountains are defined as being at least 1000 feet in height.  The highest point in Denmark is only 561 feet above sea level.  So, no Mountains.  So, I just had to go with a high point.  We took a little day trip to Stevns Klint, a formation of chalk cliffs bordering the Baltic Sea.  We had to climb down a Mountain of stairs to get to the coastline.  It was actually the scariest set of stairs I have ever been on.  More like a ladder.  Crazy going down it with kids!  And there is this old church that is hanging over the edge of the cliff.  They don't use it anymore because of it's precarious position, but we were able to go in it and walk around.  It was pretty cool.  And the cliffs themselves were just so beautiful. 

Stevns Klint

We hadn't heard too much about Stevns Klint before deciding to make a trip there.  It's the type of place we would have never made it to without a car.  We were definitely happy to have a car, it's so nice to visit off-road places like this.  Stevns Klint is somewhat similar to the chalk cliffs at Møn.  Only on a smaller scale. It was a nice sunny day in early April, but still pretty cold.  But, I can't tell you how nice it was to get out of the house and into the sun!  We started out by eating lunch and then heading over to the cliffs.  There is an old church there, built probably somewhere around the 14th century.

But, in the early 1900's, the back part of it partially collapsed into the sea due to the cliffs eroding.  The church was so beautiful.  It's not used anymore, but they have made it so you can walk inside and look around.  It's a little scary since the back is flush with this eroding cliff.  But, it was so beautiful!  We then headed down the trail to the beach below.  The trail consisted of a short dirt path and then the stairs from hell.  Seriously, the scariest stairs ever!

It was really just a ladder, but super steep, narrow and long!  Anyway, I was pretty terrified of the kids slipping down the ladder.  We all clung to each other and the ladder and eventually made our way down to the waterside.

We spent a long time just walking around the beach, looking for fossils and sea glass.  It was so fun and relaxing, especially with the sun beating down on us.  We were a little nervous though, watching parts of the cliffs looming above us, flake off and fall down around our feet.  We tried to stay as close to the water as we could.  After making our way back up the scary stairs, we walked around a bit and then loaded up the car to go see the lighthouse down the road.

 We were pretty disappointed to find out that if we'd been there just 30 minutes earlier, we would have been able to climb it, but oh well, next time.  It was such a beautiful view of the Baltic sea.  I find myself continually amazed at how beautiful Denmark is.  It's such a great mixture of natural beauty and old architectural beauty.  I love it!

Lexi is sitting about 3 feet away from the open cliff.  No guardrails, barriers, nothing.  We did stay in this area for very long.

Photo Challenge Week #13 - City

Shannon - I would say that I am definitely a small-town girl.  But, there is something about the big city that is just so invigorating.  I LOVE going into Copenhagen.  Maybe it's all the neat old buildings, or the statues, or just the feeling of life.  I don't know.  I just love it!

Easter

Easter seemed very early this year, it really snuck up on us!  A few days before Easter, we got together with Alaina and Olivia to dye eggs.  This was the first time I've ever dyed Easter eggs without using a dye kit.  It actually worked extremely well.  We just used food coloring and vinegar with water.  The colors were much brighter and brilliant than I had expected.  We also tried coloring on hot eggs with crayons.  It was a little tricky, because the eggs were quite hot, but it was a fun way to do it and they looked really pretty. 

On Easter, we had a nice relaxing day with church and a yummy dinner.  I kept thinking about Easter during my childhood.  We almost always went to St. George to visit my Grandma and Grandpa Austin.  We would get up in the morning and have breakfast and then my sister and I would have to take a bath.  My mom almost always either made us or bought us new Easter dresses.  So, we would get dressed up in these cute dresses and would go outside, where lo and behold, the Easter bunny had shown up.  My Grandparents had this awesome yard and the Easter bunny was very generous.  We had a great time finding all that he left for us.  In the afternoon, we would always go on a picnic, usually out somewhere in the desert.  What great memories!  Easter was one of my favorite times of year as a child!
Here in Denmark, it's too cold, rainy and/or snowy to do anything outside.  On Monday morning, we all had the day off and guess what?  The Easter Bunny showed up Monday morning and scattered the house with chocolates and little gifts for the kids.  Not much room for a hunt, but it still took a while for the kids to find everything.

Easter Vacation

During the week of Easter Break, we went to several museums, including the Post and Tele Museum, the Geological Museum and the Zoological Museum.  They were all fun outings and we got to see a lot of new things.  Here are a few pictures.
