Photo Challenge Week #23 - Bicycles

Biking is so popular here.  We ride our bikes nearly every day.  I use my bike to do the grocery shopping, take the kids to school, and for fun.  We went out to this nature preserve called VestAmager.  We were able to rent bikes for Myra and I to ride and this mini-van bike for Chad to take Lexi and Noah in.  The kids enjoyed riding in it.  I'm not sure if Chad enjoyed all the work of biking them around though.  And Noah just couldn't stop sticking his tongue out at me. 

Photo Challenge Week #22 - Sun

A year ago, I would have laughed at this topic because we rarely saw the sun, but this year, we've had a lot of beautiful sunny days.  It's been great.  One day we went out on a picnic with our friends, Alaina and Olivia.  We found this huge field of dandelions that the kids had so much fun playing in.  Noah and Olivia especially enjoyed sitting down in the field.  And the sunny flowers just make the sunny day that much sunnier. =) 
ps.  If Noah and Olivia ever get married someday, we'll use this picture on their announcement.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed. =)

Vestamager

Lexi and Noah's teacher had told us several times about this great nature preserve in vestamager.  Lexi had actually gone there with her class and said it was a lot of fun.  So, with the weather getting a little warmer, we decided to head out there on a Saturday afternoon.  We made the mistake of taking the Metro out, instead of driving.  We didn't know what to expect with parking, etc, so we thought it would be better this way.  In the future, we'll definitely take our car! 
Anyway, we walked into the preserve and while it wasn't as beautiful as the Dyrehave, it definitely had it's own beauty.  It is located right by the sea and we quickly realized that if we wanted to see any of it, we would need bikes.  Luckily, we were able to rent bikes right there at the preserve, including a Christiania bike for Lexi and Noah to ride in.  It was a really enjoyable afternoon.  We were able to see much more of the park than if we had been on foot.  They had a lot of livestock there, cows, horses, goats, sheep, etc.  But, we also saw a bunch of deer.  I just love in Denmark, that almost right in the middle of the big city, there are these huge green spaces.  Love it! 
After finishing our ride, we realized there was a pond that we could go and catch tadpoles at. So much fun!  The kids were so into scooping out the gunk and seeing what they came up with. Mostly leeches and snails, but we did find 2 tadpoles.  They had little animal carriers we could purchase, so we got one and took home our little prizes. 
We ended the outing by visiting Noah's Arc.  By this time, rain was starting to come down, so the kids were disappointed we didn't get to play there more.  But, I'm sure we'll go back again another time.  Great outing!

 We are eating lunch at the park and yes, that is a castle behind us.  I just LOVE that we can have a picnic at the park with a Castle in the background. =)

 This is one of the only things I like about living in an apartment complex.  Lots of kids for my kids to play with.  I think this night we counted about 25 kids out there playing together.  So fun!

Photo Challenge Week #21 - Old Buildings

We live in Europe, so this one was just too easy! We have a 14th century church just a couple of blocks from us. But, just around the corner, we also have this old farmhouse. It was built in 1916, young for Denmark, but we often chuckle about how in Utah, something a 100 hundred years old would be a Historical Monument, whereas here, people are still living in homes that are 400 years old.  

The farmhouse is called Birkelund and is now being used an art exhibit, where they host small concerts and art exhibitions.  It's a very beautiful building and setting. 

Dandelions

We got together with our friends Alaina and Olivia with the plans to go to a little animal farm near our home.  But it was closed.  Luckily, we found this awesome field of Dandelions.  The kids had so much fun playing in the field and were all soaking wet and dirty from the wet ground.  It was so fun and the pictures just look so pretty!

 Myra and Lexi were in flower-picking heaven.  Normally, we don't like them to pick flowers.  They can be very obsessive about it.  But we figured this was a good chance for them to go for it.  HUGE bouquets of dandelions ensued.  Silly girls!

 Can you believe how cute these 2 are?  I'm really kind of hoping they get married some day.  These would make the best Engagement pictures, right?  So cute!

 The group picture of the kids didn't really work out so well.  They wouldn't sit next to each other.
