How is it possible that I have an 8 year old?!? EIGHT!!!!! Birthdays are always super exciting around here. About 364 days before their birthday, the kids will start planning it all out. What "theme" they want, what gifts they want, who they want to invite. Very exciting. Myra's favorite princess is Ariel, from the Little Mermaid. Even though she never wants to watch the movie (it's too scary), she loves the princess from it. So, I made a poster and a crown for her with the Little Mermaid on them. It was a holiday weekend and the day before her birthday, everything was closed, so we had to go to the store that morning to pick up some things for her birthday party the next day. That afternoon we went swimming at an indoor pool in Glostrup. It was a great place, with 2 kiddie pools that had a bunch of fun toys and a big slide we could all go down. We played in the water for several hours and then let the kids play in the giant indoor softplay area. It was a lot of fun. That night we ate her favorite food, Taco Soup for dinner, skyped with grandparents and opened presents. As you can see, she was pretty excited about the petshop dolls that Noah gave her. Lexi gave her a barbie and she got a scooter from Chad and I.
The next day, we hosted a friend party for her. We had debated for a while about what to do because of the language barrier between us and Myra's friends. We finally decided on lunch and a movie, opening presents and dessert. But, we vastly overestimated the time we needed to do these activities and it ended up being the longest birthday party every. I think the kids all had a lot of fun though, it was just so challenging not being able to communicate with the kids and although Myra can translate for us, she just wanted to play. We ended up with 10 kids. They watched Gnomeo and Juliet in Danish, ate lunch, cake, and we tried playing a few games, like a bike rice and twister. They mostly just played with toys and each other. Myra had a great time, even though Chad and I were a little relieved when it was all over.
This is a very special birthday for Myra, with her turning 8 and making the choice to be baptized. The past 8 years have been so wonderful with Myra. She is such a wonderful, smart, loving, happy girl. She is such a joy to have in our family.
